Although Dave Hum recorded this song, I chose to use this backing track on YouTube by Ted Lambert at BluegrassBackingTracks.com (a new website that I can't wait to be finished). I love collecting backing tracks. I used this song as a template because it has a clear bass line for me to follow. So, you've got my backing tracks, plus the one I just shared with you. Enjoy!
I just updated these tracks to improve them in January of 2026...
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of A, faster)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of A, normal)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of A, slower)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of A, slow)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of A, very slow)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of A, woodshed
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of G, faster)

- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of G, slower)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of G, slow)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (key of G, very slow)

Here are the original backing tracks that I made in August of 2024...
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (Faster)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (Normal)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (Slower)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (Slow)
- Clinch Mountain Backstep (Woodshed)
For these original backing tracks I used a MIDI bass. I'm playing my Cort acoustic guitar. I used a tambourine audio loop at the end. One of my favorite banjo teachers, Bill Nesbitt, explains step-by-step how to play Clinch Mountain Backstep. Bill also has a backing track for this song at three different speeds to help learn the song. I feel comfortable using the medium speed.
