It was first recorded in 1926 by Sam Long (1876-1931). The Southern U.S. name for the tune, “Waiting For The Federals,” is likely a reference to an event in the American Civil War. Dave Hum recorded the song on the 5-string banjo using the Standard tuning (gDGBD), in the key of G. I have made backing tracks in the keys of G and A for your preference. Enjoy!
